HABITAT KNOW-HOW

Editorial Standards

Habitat Know-How exists to give you practical, accurate and safe advice about your home. This page explains how our guides are created, checked and kept up to date — so you know exactly what to expect from us.

How we choose topics

We focus on the questions people genuinely ask about their homes. Topics are selected using search data and reader interest, prioritising practical problems — maintenance, repairs, cleaning, energy use and buying decisions — where clear guidance makes a real difference.

How our guides are made

Our guides are produced using a structured process that combines AI tools with defined quality checks:

  1. Research and drafting. Each guide is researched and drafted with the help of AI writing tools, following a strict brief: practical steps, plain language, clear safety warnings and no invented facts, statistics or product claims.
  2. Fact-checking. Every draft is reviewed by a separate fact-checking step that verifies specific claims — measurements, temperatures, safety advice and technical details — against reputable sources on the web. Claims that cannot be verified are removed or rewritten.
  3. Safety review. Any guide involving electricity, gas, water, heights, tools or chemicals is checked for missing or incorrect safety advice. Where a job should be done by a qualified professional, we say so.
  4. Quality review. Guides are scored for usefulness, clarity and structure. Anything that falls below our standard is revised or not published.
  5. Publishing. Only guides that pass every check are published.

Images

The images on Habitat Know-How are generated with AI image tools to illustrate each topic. They are representative illustrations, not photographs of specific products, homes or repairs, and should not be relied on for technical detail.

Safety first

Home maintenance can involve real risk. Our guides are general information, not a substitute for professional advice. Building codes, electrical and gas regulations, and product standards vary by country and region — always check local rules, follow manufacturer instructions, and use a qualified professional for electrical, gas, structural or other high-risk work.

Accuracy and corrections

We work hard to get things right, but if you spot an error, we want to know. Contact us through our Contact page with the article title and what needs correcting. We review every report and update the guide promptly when a correction is needed.

Keeping guides current

Methods, products and safety guidance change over time. We review and update guides when better information becomes available, and the date shown on each guide reflects when it was published or last updated.

Independence

We are not paid to cover or recommend any product, brand or service. If we use affiliate links in the future, they will be clearly disclosed and will never influence our recommendations.
